Honda Civic
1999-2001
Introduction: The Honda Civic has always been Honda's most affordable, if somewhat
boring car. But in 1986, Honda slipped in a massaged motor and called it a Si.
The import race scene would never be the same again.
1999 Honda Civic
Comments: 1999 saw the return of the Si to the Civic, and what a return it was.
Only available in the Coupe body style, the Si only came with a 160 bhp 1.6
liter in-line 4 cylinder engine (last seen in the Del Sol Si) and a five
speed manual transmission. Visual modifications were few, with a revised, deeper
front air dam, mesh grille, and "DOHC" and "VTEC" stickers on the back side panels.
The Si came fully loaded with air conditioning, sunroof and full power. It was
available only in Red, Black, or Electron Blue.
Engines: EX: 127 bhp @ 6600 rpm, 107 lb-ft @ 5500 rpm. Si: 1.6 I4 160 bhp
@ 7600 rpm, 111 lb-ft @ 7000 rpm.
Performance: Si: 0-60 in 7.2 seconds, 1/4 mile in 15.7 seconds.
2000 Honda Civic
Comments: The Honda Civic was basically carry over for 2000, with the Si
Coupe topping the performance chart.

2001 Honda Civic
Comments: The Honda Civic was completely redesigned for 2001, with the
sedan and coupe receiving distinctively different styling. Both body styles
grew in interior room and the engines were slightly enlarged to 1.7 liters.
The hatchback was officially dropped. The Si was also dropped, leaving the
pedestrian EX coupe to carry the performance banner. In addition, the
trademark double wishbone suspension which had given the previous generation
Civics excellent handling were dropped, and pedestrian MacPherson struts were
used. With the new suspension and a revised exhaust system (which made it
more difficult to add headers and aftermarket exhaust systems), enabled the new
Civic to have a flat rear floor. This was of little interest to enthusiasts
who saw their pocket performance car made a little too "mainstream." But Honda
had one more trick up their sleeve ...
Engines: EX: 1.7 I4 127 bhp, 114 lb-ft.
